The long way around / About

From pulling wire
to shipping code.

I’m naturally drawn to the parts of a product people actually interact with, whether they’re physical or digital. I bring the same methodical approach to everything from neatly wiring a fire alarm panel to building software experiences used by billions.

Origin story

I've always enjoyed coding, but it took some time to figure out how to turn that passion into a career.

I spent eight years as an electrician while gradually pursuing a computer science degree. That work brought me to some interesting places and gave me an appreciation for careful planning, respecting constraints, and leaving systems clearer than I found them.

Today I lead software teams and build product experiences at Meta. Outside of work hours, I'm usually toiling away on my latest build, whether in the woodshop or at my computer.

ABSCO Solutions

Low-Voltage Electrician

I started at ABSCO as a low-voltage electrical apprentice and spent eight years working my way up to journeyman. Most of the job involved installing and servicing CCTV, security, and fire alarm systems for commercial customers.

Even then, I kept finding excuses to write software. I built a tool that read serial output from fire alarm panels to speed up inspections and helped with an internal project management system. Those side projects made it pretty clear where I wanted to go next.

UIEvolution → Xevo

Software Engineer to Front-End Manager

UIEvolution, later renamed Xevo, gave me my first software job and the chance to work across a strange and useful mix of products. I built mobile web apps, in-vehicle infotainment, digital signage, and TV experiences for clients including Disney, iHeartRadio, NPR, Carnival, and Marriott.

Because the company was relatively small, I got to move between technologies and product types quickly. During my final year and a half, I managed a team of front-end engineers and started learning how to help other people do their best work, not just ship my own.

Meta

Software Engineer to Tech Lead Manager

I joined Meta in 2016 and have spent most of that time building core product experiences for Facebook on the web. My work has touched feed, comments, AI product features, business-critical tooling, regulatory response, accessibility, and much more.

I’ve moved between individual contributor, tech lead, and manager roles over the years. Today I lead a team of senior engineers building product experiences used at enormous scale, while staying close to the details users actually see and interact with.
